Tags are a big deal in Oklahoma -- license plate tags that is. Now, if you have a Texas driver's license, well, that is a problem. You'll need 3 picture IDs, an original birth certificate, and your mother's maiden name to get an Oklahoma driver's license. Now, you can go to another location and stand in the tag line to get your Oklahoma license tag. (That'll be another $40, please.) Well, once we got our tag, we couldn't remember the tag number -- and our zip code and telephone number. So, we solved that problem! Can't remember the Bugeaters? They were a nickname, coined by East coast sports media, for the University of Nebraska football team at the turn of the century.

The James River

The sign on the bridge says it's
"America's River." It is a great river for tubing and boating. On the day after Memorial Day 2008, it was a great day for fishing. Jon's brother Dave lives near Charlottesville, Virginia. We found easy access to the James River just 20 miles south of Dave's home.

Fishing for Smallmouth

Regulations limited the size of the fish we could keep. We had to put the really big ones back.

Brother Dave

The Smallmouth are fun to catch. Large or small, they put up quite a fight!

Lunch on the River

We ran into rocks and rapids on the stretch of the James from Scottsville to Bremo Bluff. For lunch, we were able to pull up on some of the rocks and dry out while we ate our ham and cheese sandwiches.

Iron Chef''s Feast

Dave's wife, Jill, is an Iron Chef fan. The secret ingredient for tonight's dinner was
"Smallies." She did a great job though she chose to save the roe for breakfast.

Lincoln Marathon 2008

Lea and Bill ran the Lincoln Marathon again this year. The thing about running is that it can be an individual sport so that with each event one can set a "personal best" record. In this race, both Lea and Bill finished the race. That was Goal Number One!
